Genus Grapholita Treitschke, 1829
Introduction
Building on comments from earlier workers casting doubt on the monophyly of the genus Grapholita, Hu et al. (2023) presented further (molecular) evidence suggesting the genus was not monophyletic. Their results revealed three separate clades which they recognised at the genus level: Grapholita (sensu stricto), Ephippiphora, and Aspila (the latter previously a sub-genus of Grapholita). However, the study included very little material from Australia and they were unable to place species recorded from Australia into their revised generic arrangement. We retain the classification of Horak (2006)(Grapholita conficitana group) until work is conducted to assign species to the genera of Hu et al. (2023) or another genus.
