Introduction
Previously in the AFD, because of the uncertainty of classification of the Australian fauna in the Geometrinae, most taxa were loosely classified under the tribe Geometrini only, except that the largely endemic stout-bodied 'grey' taxa were treated under the sub-tribe Pseudoterpniti. Recent studies have clarified the tribal classificaiton of many Australian taxa. However taxa that were not included in those studies have been left in the Geometrini, and the Pseudoterpniti largly elevated to the Pseudoterpnini (see discussion in Pseudoterpnini). Further work is needed to elucidate the Australian Geometrini as they now stand.
Geometrini were erected as a tribe by Stephensin 1829 based abound the type genus for the Geometridae, the large, mainly European genus Geometra.
