Family GARYPINIDAE Daday, 1888

Compiler and date details

Mark S. Harvey, Western Australian Museum, Perth, Western Australia, Australia

Introduction

The Garypininae are the smaller of the two olpiid subfamilies, with 16 genera and 64 species (Harvey 1991). The described Australian fauna consists of a single species of Solinus and two species of Protogarypinus, but numerous undescribed species are represented in museum collections, including the first Australian species of Amblyolpium (Harvey, unpublished data).

Diagnosis

The Garypininae can be distinguished easily from Olpiinae by the bifurcate arolium and the divided tergites and sternites.
