Introduction
The Gyropidae Kellogg, 1896 are represented in Australia by two species that parasitise captive Guinea Pigs, their natural hosts. These lice are, however, not common in Australia.
Gyropidae may be distinguished from other Amblycera in Australia by the presence of single claws on the tarsi; the other Amblycera have tarsi with pairs of claws.
