Introduction
The family Gorgonocephalidae is cosmopolitan. It comprises 22 genera. Twenty-six species are recognised in Australia.
Gorgonocephalids are distinguished from other euryalid families by the following combination of character states: arms simple or branching, coiled vertically; ventral furrow open; dorsal surface of arms bearing hooks which lack perforated lamina.
