Family GALEOMMATIDAE J. Gray, 1840

Compiler and date details

December 2010 - Peter U. Middelfart, Winston F. Ponder & Des Beechey, Australian Museum, Sydney, NSW, Australia

Introduction

Much confusion exist regarding the delineations between galeommatoidean families and there is scant consensus regarding which genera to include in each of the two families used herein. Hence, only a few newer works are referred to as general references.
2016: Huber (2015) has split the family into numerous subfamilies, while WoRMS has raised some of the subfamilies to family status. On the advice of W. Ponder and due to the general uncertainty about the group, the existing taxonomic structure in the AFD has not been changed to reflect either WoRMS or Huber's changes.
