Introduction

The family was proposed for the Homadaula Lower group of genera by Kyrki (1990) who excluded them from the Yponomeutoidea. The taxonomy of the widespread genus Homadaula has never been examined in Australia. Homadaula myriospila Meyrick has larvae which web phyllodes of Acacia ligulata.

The genus Tanaoctena Turner is also placed in the Galacticidae. While some species of Tanaoctena superficially resemble species of Homadaula they are placed here entirely for convenience as the suuperfamily placement for Tanaoctena is unknown. Clarke (1971) and Dugdale (1988) placed the genus in the Yponomeutidae but Kyrki (1986 unpublished) excluded it. Larvae of Tanaoctena tunnel in Coprosma (Rubiaceae). [After Nielsen & Edwards in Nielsen et al. (1996: 43)]
