Family FRONTIPODOPSIDAE Viets, 1931
Introduction
The Frontipodopsidae is a small family of water mites that includes one genus in the Southern Hemisphere and one in the Northern Hemisphere (Walter et al. 2009). The Australian fauna includes only three species in one genus, all described by Cook (1986). They are found in interstitial water in eastern Australia. The fauna was catalogued by Viets (1987) and reviewed by Harvey (1998). Nothing is known of their biology, except for the presumption that the nymphs and adults are probably predatory, and the larvae are probably parasites of some group of aquatic insects.
