Suborder FASCICULINA D'Orbigny, 1853

Compiler and date details

July 2001 - Dr Philip Bock

Introduction

Originally introduced by d'Orbigny (1853), this suborder was for long unrecognized, until it was redefined by Walter (1969), who included the families Frondiporidae, Theononidae and Fasciculiporidae. Colony form is variable, in early ontogeny they are domed or discoid, later developing narrowly lobed encrusting growths, or substantial, erect, branching structures. Zooids are elongate, with transverse diaphragms formed during ontogeny, and are always grouped in bundles, termed fascicles.
