Family FACELINIDAE Bergh, 1889
- Babakinidae Roller, 1973.
Introduction
A large group of often long slender species, mostly feeding upon hydroids, though one genus at least (Favorinus) eats the eggs of other opisthobranchs. The rhinophores are often prominent, and may be smooth, annulate, swollen into bulbs, lamellate, perfoliate or papillate all around or on the rear-face only. The cerata are cylindrical, slender, often curved or curled with an apical cnidosac, except in Phyllodesmium where the cerata may be flattened, pustulose, ribbed or covered in points and there is no cnidosac. Many cerata may crowd each side of the body, though usually there are several ceratal groups visible especially anteriorly. The anus opens among the cerata of the second group on the right side of the body, exceptionally further rearward. The radula is a single series of narrow arched teeth, each with a single strong cusp and a number of smaller denticles either side.
[Compiled from Burn (in press 2012)]
Coleman (2001) & (2008) lists two undescribed species in the genus Palisa.
