SYSTEMATICS

Slide-mounted specimens of young, untessellated females resemble, and might be confused with females of Coccus hesperidum.

STRUCTURE

Adult female 2–5 mm long; oval or pyriform in outline; flat; colour red to dark brown. Fully grown female distinguished by the dorsal pattern of polygonal areas (tessellations).
