Comment: Hewitson with his original illustrations did not indicate the number of specimens he had; Kirby, W.F. 1879. Catalogue of the Collection of Diurnal Lepidoptera Formed by the Late William Chapman Hewitson, of Oatlands, Walton-on-Thames; and Bequeathed by Him to the British Museum. London : John van Voorst iv 246 pp. [28] (listed three specimens under angulipennis Lucas but did not mention pallene Hewitson); Waterhouse (1936: 11) identified a female syntype but was unable to locate the third specimen).Type locality references:

London : John van Voorst iv 246 pp.; Waterhouse, G.A. 1936. [unpublished personal manuscript of observations made at the BMNH (Papilionidae, Pieridae, Danainae)]. Photocopy located at ANIC, Canberra, ACT. 29 pp.; Whittell, H.M. 1947. Frederick Strange. The Australian Zoologist 11: 96-114 [96] (gave the collecting localities of F. Strange); De Baar, M. & Hancock, D.L. 1993. The Australian species of Elodina C. & R. Felder (Lepidoptera: Pieridae). Australian Entomological Magazine 20(1): 25-43 [34] (gave the locality on the label of the lectotype as 'Australia'; it was collected by F. Strange (Str is a Hewitson abbreviation of his name on the label) and so almost certainly came from near Brisbane, QLD).
