Introduction

Despite there being four references in "General References" below, this species seems not to have been recognised from Australia since it was described by Sowerby in 1862. There are no specimens in the Australian Museum collection, and a note in the Malacology Loose Leaf System by W.F. Ponder says "I cannot find this species in our collections from Queensland; see BM notes [by Hedley]".

Hedley (1913, p. 276) (see "General References") reported finding what were probably types in the Brithish Museum, and synonymised F. corbicula with F. lanceolata. He did not mention any other specimens.

Iredale & McMichael (1962, p. 31, sp. 547) (see "General References" below) list Elegedion lanceolata (Sowerby, 1862) in their NSW checklist, presumably relying for identification on Sowerby's figure. There is no literature up to 1962 to support their claim.

Cernohorsky (1978, p. 29) (See "General References" below) lists Diodora lanceolata (Sowerby, 1862) noting "usually recorded from Queensland, Australia".

Wilson (1993, p. 51) (See "General References" below) lists the species without a figure, clearly basing his information on Hedley (1913). Despite Hedley noting the type localities as "Australia" and "Cape Moreton", Wilson broadened the distribution to "Queensland".

The conclusion is that this species is known only from the type specimens of the senior and junior synonyms, and has not since been reliably reported from Australia.
