Excluded Taxa
- Misidentifications
FISSURELLIDAE: Diodora granifera (Pease, 1861) [the only reference to this species in Australia is by Wilson (1993, p. 52), who reports it from Point Quobba, near Carnarvon in Central WA, around northern Australia to Caloundra, Queensland. We assume that Wilson’s record is based on a misidentification as no other records are known from Australia. It was described from the Hawaiian Islands. The range was given by Kay (1979, p. 40) as possibly including the Tuamotu group in the central Pacific and Clipperton Island. Rehder (1980, p. 18) reported it from Easter Island, and gave the range as Hawaiian islands, Society islands, Tuamotus, Gambier Island and Easter Island in the central and eastern Pacific.] — Kay, E.A. 1979. Fissurellidae: Diodora octagona (Reeve, 1850) [this was first reported from Australia by Brazier (1879) in a list of shells from Fitzroy Island, with a query on identification. It was carried forward, without the query, in a list of shells from Queensland by Hedley (1910). Wilson (1993) recognised it from Australia (as Diodora octogona [sic]), relying only on Hedley's citation. It has not otherwise been reported from Australia since Hedley's publication, and there are no specimens in the Australian Museum collection, so it is concluded that Brazier's identification was incorrect] — Brazier, J. 1879. List of marine shells collected on Fitzroy Island. Journal of Conchology 2: 186-199 [198]; Hedley, C. 1910. The marine fauna of Queensland.
