Introduction

Mahoney & Ride (1988: 37) recognised Echymipera rufescens australis in synonymy with Perameles rufescens, following Tate (1948: 333-334).

Eastern Cape York from Somerset to McIlwraith Range, also occurs in New Guinea, Kei Ils and Aru Ils.
