Family EYLAIDAE Leach, 1815

Introduction

Larvae in the water mite family Eylaidae are parasites of aquatic insects, especially Coleoptera and Hemiptera, and the adults are predators that feed on small aquatic crustaceans (Walter et al. 2009). The Australian fauna includes a single genus with 12 species, which are abundant and widespread in lakes and pools. All these species were catalogued by Viets (1987), and the Australian fauna was reviewed by Harvey (1998).
