Suborder EUPNOI Hansen & Sørensen, 1904

Introduction

Groh & Giribet (2015) reviewed the superfamily Caddoidea and found most of the southern hemisphere genera formed a sister group to the remaining families in the suborder Dyspnoi. They resurrected the family Acropsopilionidae, previously placed as a subfamily in Eupnoi, to accommodate these genera in the Dyspnoi. The more recently described genus Hesperopilio, from Western Australia and Chile, was unrelated to either Caddidae or Acropsopilionidae, and was unplaced within the Dyspnoi superfamily Phalangioidea. For convenience we place the Hesperopilio in the Neopilionidae with the genera it was most closely related to in the work of Groh & Giribet (2015) however this placement is provisional and will most likely change following further work on the Phalangioidea. Under this arrangement (followed here) the Caddoidea are not represented in Australia.
