Family ENTOCYTHERIDAE Hoff, 1942
- Entocytheridae Hoff, C.C. 1942. The subfamily Entocytherinae, a new subfamily of fresh-water Cytherid Ostracoda, with descriptions of two new species of the genus Enthocythere. American Midland Naturalist 27: 63-73 [63].

Diagnosis
Shell reniform to elliptical, thin chitinous, laterally compressed; valves slightly unequal in size, with or without protuberances, and with marginal or submarginal setae. Eyes, when present, fused and pigmented. Antennula 6, 7-segmented. Antenna 4-segmented, armed distally with 2 or 3 claws and basal podomere bearing long setiform flagellum (claw). Mandibula well developed with all podomeres of palp fused except distal one. Thoracopod legs similar to one another, each terminating in large curved claw. Maxilla variable, consisting of palp, and only one masticatory process. Copulatory appendage of male complex, consisting of peniferum, penis, clasping apparatus, 1 or 2 fingers, and with or without finger guard.
