Tribe Dimerini Raffray, 1908

Introduction

The Dimerini holds two distinct groups of genera, with three Old World genera near Octomicrus Schaufuss found from Africa to Italy and Japan, and three New World genera centered on Tuberoplectus Park being Neotropical. One genus previously known only from the Neotropics is now known from Australia (Chandler 2001: 72).

 

Diagnosis

Body elongate and flattened. Head with maxillary palpi small, normal in position and form at head apex, third segments small and much shorter than fourth segments; lateral margins of head anterior to eyes not excavated to completely hold maxillary palpi, at most slightly concave. Legs with two distinct tarsomeres, second tarsomeres greatly reduced and fused into middle of first tarsomeres, basal tarsomeres much shorter than apical tarsomeres, with single tarsal claws. Abdomen with paratergites adjacent to visible tergite 4 (VII) distinct. Males with seventh visible sternum (IX) composed of two equal sclerites (tergites IX). Aedeagus asymmetric, lacking parameres, often with paired narrow sclerites at base.
