Subfamily Derbinae Kirkaldy, 1906

Introduction

Kirkaldy (1906) introduced the subfamily Derbinae as a division of a family Derbidae which included the subfamily Kermesiinae, now recognised as a separate family the Meenoplidae. He included a number of genera in his Kermesiinae which are now recognised as being Derbidae. The Australian representation of the Derbinae is very small with just two species recognised in two separate genera of the tribe Cenchreini.

 

Diagnosis

Jugal margin of hindwings without stridulatory plate; branches of CuA of forewings not anastomosing; sensory pits present on forewings and sometimes also on head (Emeljanov 1996).
