Species Dasineura dielsi Rübsaamen, 1916
- Dasineura dielsi Rübsaamen, E.H. 1916. Beitrag zur Kenntnis aussereuropäischer Gallmücken. Sitzungsberichte der Gesellschaft Naturforschender Freunde zu Berlin 1915: 431-481 [478].
Type data:
Syntype(s) whereabouts unknown (on Acacia cyclopis [Mimosaceae]), nr Karocketta, WA and VIC.Type host:
Acacia cyclops A. Cunn. ex G. Don [Mimosaceae]
Introduction
Kolesik & Gagné (2016) note that they could not study the Rübsaamen’s glycerine-mounted syntypes which are presumably part of ZMHB collection, currently not accessible due to its fragility (M. Kotrba, pers. comm., 1998).
Distribution
States
Western Australia
Extra Distribution Information
In addition to the type material, Ru¨ bsaamen (1916) received galls collected in Victoria in April 1904 and diagnosed them as D. dielsi on A. cyclops. As A. cyclops does not occur naturally in Victoria, this collection was most likely not D. dielsi but another eastern Australian Dasineura species that forms fluted galls on a related Acacia.
Australian Endemic.
IBRA
WA: Esperance Plains (ESP), Warren (WAR)
Ecological Descriptors
Adult: volant.
Larvae in galls: gall-inducer (associated flora: Acacia cyclops; Acacia papyrocarpa; Acacia oswaldii; Acacia ligulata; Acacia sophorae).
Extra Ecological Information
Syntypes, males and females, were bred from tubular flower galls on Acacia cyclops collected by Dr Diels and E. Pritzel near Karocketta, Western Australia, in January 1891. In addition to the type material, Rübsaamen received galls collected by Otto Kuntze in Victoria in April 1904 and diagnosed them as D. dielsi on A. cyclops. (Kolesik & Gagné 2016)
Diagnosis
DNA analysis. Cytochrome b sequenced for RJA2571 (GenBank accession number AY278688).
