Family DIPTILOMIOPIDAE Keifer, 1944
- Diptiliomiopini Keifer, H.H. 1944. Eriophyid studies. XIV. Bulletin of the California Department of Agriculture 33: 18-38.
Introduction
The family Diptilomiopidae includes 53 genera and more than 300 species world-wide (Walter et al. 2009). All are plant parasites, and a few species are crop pests. The family was catalogued by Amrine & Stasny (1994), and their classification, biology, and host-plant relationships were reviewed by Lindquist et al. (1996). The Australian fauna has not been studied, and only four species are known in three genera. Hong & Zhang (1996) reported Diptacus gigantorhynchus from Australia. However, this is an error, which should have been reported as Austria (Zhang, personal communication, 1996).
