Family DENDROTIIDAE Vanhöffen, 1914
Introduction
Cohen (1998) summarised the taxonomic history of this family and provided a key to its three genera. Two are well represented in south-eastern Australia.
Diagnosis
Antennae elongate and slender. Pereon bearing spines or long setae dorsally. Mouthparts generally not modified except maxillipedal palp significantly narrower than endite. Pereopod 1 prehensile, shorter than others. Pereopods 2-7 ambulatory, slender; pereopod 7 absent in some species. Coxal plates visible dorsally or not, extended in some species into long projections. Uropods large, biramous, inserted on dorsolateral surface of pleotelson in large socket. Pleotelson extending beyond insertion of uropods. Anus opening in branchial chamber. Pleopods typical of Janiroidea, but male pleopod 2 of some species with long appendix masculina.
