Family DAMAEOLIDAE Grandjean, 1965

Introduction

In the classification of Schatz et al. (2011), the family Damaeolidae includes five genera and 15 species world-wide. None of the genera is diverse, but collectively they are cosmopolitan (Subias 2011). The Australian fauna includes only a single identified species, which is known from a single locality in coastal scrubland in South Australia. This species has been the subject of considerable taxonomic and nomenclatural confusion, as reviewed by Colloff & Halliday (1998), and has an extensive synonymy, as listed by Subias (2011). Another unidentified species has been collected in New South Wales (Osler 1997).
