Introduction

This small group is related to the Cyclodorippidae, and indeed, has been long treated as a synonym of that family. Cymonomids are rarely collected except by dredge from deeper waters of the continental shelf and slope. Only one genus and four species are known from deep water off eastern Australia. Cymonomus delli Griffin & Brown, 1976, previously recorded from Australian waters under the genus Cymonomoides was transferred back to Cymonomus by Ahyong & Ng (2009). A modern treatment of the family is available in the works of Tavares (1993a, 1993b).
