- Cyclopsitta macleayana Ramsay, E.P. 1874. Description of a new species of genus Cyclopsitta, from northern Queensland. Sydney Morning Herald 70(11378): 5 [published 5 Nov.] [5, col. 5] [description reprinted on 7 Nov. 1874 in Sydney Mail 18(749): 587 (col. 4) and, in 1875, in Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond. 1875: 602–60; as Macleayana; based on male, female and immature material then in AM, the W. Macleay collection (MMUS), and Ramsay's own Dobroyde collection later acquired by AM].
Type data:
Syntype(s) AM 0.18582 ♂, coast range near Cardwell, Rockingham Bay, QLD; AM 0.18583 ♀, coast range near Cardwell, Rockingham Bay, QLD
Comment: two syntypes confirmed in AM by Longmore, N.W. 1991. Type specimens of birds in the Australian Museum. Technichal Report of the Australian Museum n 4: 1–42; other type material in AM and the Macleay Museum not traced, cf. Stanbury, P.J. 1969. Type specimens in the Macleay Museum, University of Sydney III. Birds. Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 93: 457-461. - Cyclopsitta leadbeateri McCoy, F. 1875. Note on an apparently new parrot from Cardwell, NE Australia. Annals and Magazine of Natural History 4 16: 54 [published July] [54] [as Leadbeateri; described from the same series from the same collector (K. Broadbent) as Cyclopsitta macleayana Ramsay, 1874, but probably after the series was dispersed by Eli (and Charles?) Waller to different museums, cf. Mathews, G.M. 1916. The Birds of Australia. London : Witherby & Co. Vol. 6 pt 1. pp. 1–104 pls 275–282 [publication dated as 1916–1917, 22 Nov. 1916] (70–71) and Whittell, H.M. 1954. The Literature of Australian Birds: a History and Bibliography of Australian Ornithology. Perth : Paterson Brokensha xi 116 788 pp. (738–739); thus leadbeateri McCoy, 1875 is not necessarily an objective synonym of macleayana Ramsay, 1874].

Syntype(s) NMV R8633 ♀, Cardwell, QLD; NMV R8634 ♀, Cardwell, QLD. - Cyclopsitta maccoyi Gould, J. 1875. Descriptions of three new species of Australian birds. Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 1875: 314-315 [Date published 1 Aug 1875] [314] [published Aug.; as maccoyi; based on a figure and specimens of both sexes from the same series as Cyclopsitta macleayana Ramsay, 1874, and C. leadbeateri McCoy, July 1875, but after the series was dispersed by Eli (and Charles?) Waller to different museums, cf. Mathews, G.M. 1916. The Birds of Australia. London : Witherby & Co. Vol. 6 pt 1. pp. 1–104 pls 275–282 [publication dated as 1916–1917, 22 Nov. 1916] (70–71), and Whittell, H.M. 1954. The Literature of Australian Birds: a History and Bibliography of Australian Ornithology. Perth : Paterson Brokensha xi 116 788 pp. (738–739); thus maccoyi Gould, 1875 is not necessarily an objective synonym of macleayana Ramsay, 1874 or leadbeateri McCoy, 1875; syntypes figured on pl. 7 in Gould, J. 1888. The Birds of New Guinea and the adjacent Papuan islands, including many new species recently discovered in Australia. London : H. Sotheran & Co. Vol. 5 75 pls 77 pp. [published between 1875–1888]].

Comment: for identification of syntypes, see Salvadori, T. 1891. Catalogue of the Birds in the British Museum. Catalogue of the Psittaci, or Parrots. London : British Museum Vol. 20 xvii 658 pp. XVIII pls (95), and Warren, R.L.M. 1966. Type-specimens of Birds in the British Museum (Natural History). Vol. 1 Non-Passerines. London : British Museum ix 320 pp., neither of whom cite any male syntype. - Opopsitta diophthalma boweri Mathews, G.M. 1915. Additions and corrections to my List of the Birds of Australia. Comment: for identification of syntypes, see Greenway, J.C. 1978. Type specimens of birds in the American Museum of Natural History. Pt 2. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 161: 1–306. - Cyclopsitta wallerii Mathews, G.M. 1930. Some interesting links with John Gould. The Emu 30: 141-143 [141] [as junior synonym, and unavailable under ICZN Art 11 (e); based on an unpublished plate by E. Waller drawn from specimens which, possibly now in QM (e.g., 0.10655), were collected by K. Broadbent before July 1874 and may have been part of the original series from which Cyclopsitta macleayana Ramsay, 1874, C. leadbeateri McCoy, 1875 and C. maccoyi Gould, 1875 (q.v.) were described—as these nominal species were described after the series was dispersed, Cyclopsitta wallerii Mathews, 1930 is probably not an objective synonym of any of them].

Holotype QM unspecified (institution uncertain), Cardwell, Rockingham Bay, QLD.
