Ecological Descriptors
Carnivorous, epipelagic, marine, medusivorous, neritic, planktonic.
Diagnosis
Up to 140 mm wide; rhopaliar and tentacular stomach pouches connected by several broad, transverse anastomoses; peripheral canals without anastomoses; radial muscles reaching halfway into the circular muscle band; horseshoe-shaped insertion of tentacle groups almost as broad as long.

Notes
The species was originally described as a variety of Cyanea capillata, but has most frequently been regarded as its own species.
