Adult - volant, larva - aquatic; larvae found in grassy swamp areas, seepages from springs, swift-running drains from irrigated crops; adults taken in chicken-baited, light, Rothamstead and truck traps; adults feed on humans and chickens; isloation of Oak Vale ephemeral fever, Sindbis and Corriparta viruses from collections.
