Ecological Descriptors

Adult: volant.

Larva: aquatic.

Extra Ecological Information

Adult does not normally bite humans and feeds predominantly on birds, rabbits, oxen, sheep, dogs, mammals and amphibians; adults collected in light and dry-ice-baited traps; potential vector of Murray Valley encephalitis and other arboviruses, birdpox and reticuloendotheliosis viruses; possible vector of myxomatosis; larva found in ground pools such as freshwater swamps, lagoons, springs, tea-tree swamps, brackish pools, rice fields, tree holes, effluent ponds, sewerage treatment works, rock pools in creeklines, irrigation channels and ditches, pools and creeks with vegetation and artificial containers; for extensive biological information see Lee et al.
