Species Ctenophorus maculatus (Gray, 1831)
Spotted Military Dragon, Spotted Sand Dragon [English]
- Uromastyx maculatus Gray, J.E. 1831. A synopsis of the species of the class Reptilia. pp. 1-110 in Griffith, E. (ed.). The Animal Kingdom Arranged in Conformity with its Organization by the Baron Cuvier. London : Whittaker, Treacher & Co. Vol. 9 481+110 pp. [1831 on title page] [62] [Gray's description referred to Cuvier's ms name applied to a specimen, almost certainly MNHP 1259, on which the name Grammatophora gaimardiim is also based].
Type data:
Holotype MNHP 1259, unspecified locality, but probable holotype from Shark Bay, WA. - Grammatophora gaimardii Duméril, A.M.C. & Bibron, G. 1837. Erpétologie Générale ou Histoire Naturelle Complète des Reptiles. Paris : Roret Vol. 4 ii 571 pp. [470] [treated as a distinct species with its own type specimen, see Guibé, J. 1954. Catalogue des Types de Lézards du Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle. Paris : Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle 119 pp., but is more properly regarded as an unjustified replacement name for Uromastyx maculatus Gray, 1831].
Type data:
Holotype MNHP 1259, vicinity of Shark Bay, WA.
