Diagnosis

Female. A small dark species; wing length 1.3-1.5, mean 1.38mm (7 specimens); hind femur length 0.7-0.8, mean 0.71 mm (5 specimens).
Head f s ratio high, 2.2-2.3, mean 2.27 (the highest recorded in Australia). Mouthparts as described and figured in McKeever and Colless (1991); mandibles without the usual fringe of teeth; hypopharynx with fringe of soft spicules replacing the usual teeth; both lightly scerotised.
Thorax: Dorsum and pleura dark brown.
Legs relatively dark. Fore and mid femora and tibiae brown, the former with a hint of a subapical darker band. Hind femora and tibiae rather paler, the latter with subbasal and subapical broad darker bands.
Wing: Good specimens show costal fringe darkened over a broad patch basal to, and not quite reaching, apex of R2, extending weakly on to R1; also, another similar dark patch on fringe over about central third of cell rl; also several
weak dark patches at base of M4+5, centre of M, and adjacent on CuA. afc 1.3- 1.6, mean 1.46; pfc 1.1-1.8, mean 1.52 (7 specimens).
Abdomen darkened with scattered pigment (? oil globules).

Male. Generally resembling female in body colour and patterning of wing and legs; wing length 1.3-1.4, mean 1.3 1 mm (6 specimens).
Antenna with flagellar segment 1/segment 2 1.5-1.9, mean 1.76 (6 specimens), which is much the same as all others measured. Wing with afc 1.3-1.6, mean 1.42 (6 specimens), again, much the same as for others measured; but pfc 1.3-1.6, mean 1.42 (6 specimens), distinctly higher than any others measured.
Terminalia almost identical with those of C. marksae (see Colless, 1986, Fig. 54), but setae in dorsointernal row on coxite rather weaker and 5 in number.
