Introduction

Cochlicopids are protandrous hermaphrodites. They are herbivores and can occur in enormous aggregations in suitable conditions. Some species have been recorded as crop pests in Europe. They generally live in well watered gardens, parks, wasteland and around the edges of crops and pasture in moist cool climate areas. Favoured habitats are under drifts of dead leaves in gardens, along the edges of pathways, driveways, fence lines and under accumulated rubbish.
