Tribe Clavigerini Leach, 1815

Introduction

The Clavigerini currently contains 97 genera, with most of these in the Afrotropical and Oriental Regions (Chandler 2001: 535).

PSELAPHINAE: Clavigeropsis Raffray, 1882 [only species removed to Tapas]

 

Diagnosis

Head cylindrical, frontal rostrum strongly projecting; antennomeres I very short, often difficult to see, number of antennomeres varying from 3-6 (5-6 in Australia); clypeus broadly arcuate, with small apicolateral cavities partially enclosing reduced maxillary palpi. Abdomen shallowly and broadly depressed at base of tergal plate and visible sternite 2 (IV); visible tergite 4 (VII) lacking adjacent paratergites. Legs with first 2 tarsomeres very short. Male genitalia with bulbous median lobe, dorsal diaphragm present, parameres apparently lacking in most genera (Jeannel 1950, 1960), parameres present in the single Australian genus.
