Type species:
Scarabaeus latipes Guérin-Méneville, 1838 by original designation (Hope selected Geotrupes truncatus Fabricius, 1775 as type species; (Carne, P.B., 1957) (83) considered this a misidentification, and that the material on which Hope based his description could be correctly assigned to Scarabaeus latipes Guérin-Méneville, 1838).
