Subfamily Ceropalinae

Introduction

The Ceropalinae is a small subfamily of cleptoparasitic wasps containing only two genera, both of which are recorded from Australia. Ceropales Latrielle, 1796 is a cosmopolitan genus containing about 135 species globally (Wasbauer, 1995) in four subgenera i.e. Ceropales s. str., Hemiceropales Priesner, 1969, Bifidoceropales Priesner, 1969 and Priesnerius Móczár, 1978. Both Australian species of Ceropales belong to the helvetica species–group, which is part of Ceropales s. str. A single species of Irenangelus Schulz, 1906 is recorded from Australia.
