- Callista Poli, 1791 [Testacea utriusque Siciliae..., 1: 30; Huber [2010, Compendium of bivalves: 71] argued that Meek's designation was invalid because Poli supposedly included Venus chione in Callistoderma (see that name), but not in Callista. He thus treated Callista as a genus without originally included species, and designated Callista coccinea Poli, 1795 [established, without description, for the animal occupying the shell of Venus chione] as type species].
