Holotype BMNH 1881.05.01.0358 adult unsexed (Gould had acquired 15 skins of this species, only this one has the location as mentioned by Mathews and can be therefore regarded as the type. At the time of collection the given location occupied the eastern portion of Australia and is therefore misleading), New South Wales
