Family CLIONIDAE Rafinesque, 1815
Introduction
These slender gymnosomes lack external gills and the body is clearly divided into a head and a trunk which tapers posteriorly. Clionids are usually equipped with adhesive buccal cones termed cephaloconi. Clionids use their short wings to swim horizontally or vertically. They are thought to actively seek out their prey, which are primarily shelled thecosomes. Compiled from Burn (in press 2012).
