Introduction
The Chiridotidae are a cosmopolitan family of eight genera, including six from Australian waters. Seventeen species are recorded in the Australian fauna.
Chiridotids are similar to Synaptidae in the order Apodida, but are distinguished by the following combination of character states: body smooth or warty; ossicles comprise wheels with six spokes and curved or sigmoid rods, ossicles sometimes absent.
