Introduction

This is the most basal and smallest subfamily of Cecidomyiidae. Catotrichinae as well as Lestremiinae, Micromyinae, Winnertziinae and Porricondylinae are generally considered as mycophagous and feeding in various forms of detritus including dead wood. Larvae and biological details of most of the species belonging to these subfamilies are unknown.
