Family CARYOPHYLLAEIDAE Leuckart, 1878
Introduction
This relatively large and widespread family, currently comprising 20 genera (Mackiewicz 1994), is represented in Australia by three species from two genera found in the dewfish or catfish Tandanus tandanus in the Murray Darling River system.
The family Caryophyllaeidae is characterised by the occurence of the vitellarium and testes internal to the longitudinal muscles and in the Australian genera by a V-shaped ovary and the structure of the scolex (Mackiewicz 1994).
