Family CARSIDARIDAE Crawford, 1911
Introduction
A small family of 35 species in eight genera with pan-tropical distribution. Host plants are in the Malvales (Bombacaceae, Malvaceae and Sterculiaceae). Known larvae are free-living and produce copious waxy strands.
Five species in four non-endemic genera are now recorded for Australia.
The family was covered on a worldwide basis, including diagnosis, by Hollis (1987). Burckhardt et al. (2021) recognise two subfamilies, Carsidarinae and the Homotominae, the latter previously treated at the family level.
