Introduction

The family Calometridae is known from the western Pacific region from five genera Two genera are recorded in Australian waters represented by five species.

Calometrids are distinguished from other families in the order Comatulida by the following combination of character states: arms ten or more; pinnules as in Tropiometridae but with conspicuous covering and side plates; pinnule combs absent; P1 delicate and weak but with first two segments enormously enlarged; cirrus segments with dorsal ridge or spine.
