Family CALLIOPIIDAE Sars, 1895
Introduction
Barnard and Karaman (1991) included the calliopiid and pontogeneid amphipods in the Eusiridae. The family Eusiridae (sensu lato) is difficult to define and almost certainly polyphyletic. Bousfield and Hendrycks (1997) reverted to the Calliopiidae and in this catalogue we keep the three families separate. Calliopiids are considered to be a ‘bipolar’ group (Bousfield & Hendrycks 1997) and although not well represented in Australian waters they are diverse in the Australian Antarctic Territories.
