Specimen record in 1841, see Gibson-Hill, C.A. 1949. The birds of the Cocos-Keeling Islands (Indian Ocean). Ibis 91: 221–243. Elsewhere widespread in lowland SE Asia and the Greater Sundas (Malay Peninsula, including Bangka, Belitung, Bali) and Borneo. Record accepted, being based on a specimen; the skin is probably deposited in the Raffles Museum, Singapore. The specimen should be of the nominotypical subspecies, K. k. ketupu (Horsfield, 1821) which is widespread in Malaysia and the Greater Sundas, see Peters, J.L. 1940. Check-list of Birds of the World.
