Introduction

According to Ponder (pers. comm., Sept 2012), Huber (2010: 550) indicated that this species is that identified by Lamprell & Healy (1998) as Brachidontes (Brachidontes) maritimus (Pilsbry, 1921), which he regarded as a synonym of B. crebristriatus (Conrad, 1837), an Hawaiian endemic. He further suggested that B. sculptus could be the same as B. mutabilis (Gould, 1861) whichhas a central Indo-west Pacific distribution.
