Introduction

This group of 13 genera is defined by the lack of an antebasal sulcus on the pronotum, and have the lateal mesosternal foveae usually broadly meeting and forming a linear internal tube (Chandler 2001: 240).

 

Diagnosis

Antennal tubercles lacking or low and knobbed; head venter with prominent setose lateroapical tubercles or angular ridges; gular foveae close in deep pit; gula with thin median carina; setae on head venter short. Pronotal base usually smooth, lacking distinct constricted band, lacking antebasal sulcus, antebasal foveae isolated when present; prosternum with or without median longitudinal carina. Elytra often with discal stria short to lacking (long in Bartle). Thorax with lateral mesosternal foveae large and usually with axes forming straight line, broadly meeting internally or forming continuous linear tube (foveae widely separated in Praeruptifrons). Abdomen with visible tergite 1 (IV) lacking mediobasal foveae; lateral sclerites (tergites IX) of seventh visible ventral segment of males usually very small, penial plate (sternite IX) large.
