Species Barbatia (Cucullaearca) grayana Dunker, 1867

Compiler and date details

December 2010 - Peter U. Middelfart, Winston F. Ponder & Des Beechey, Australian Museum, Sydney, NSW, Australia

Introduction

This maybe an Australian endemic, however Huber (2010) records it possibly from Indonesia.

Barbatia (Barbatia) grayana Dunker, 1867: Lamprell & Healy (1998:46) states that Byssoarca decussata Sowerby, 1833 is preoccupied by Arca decussata Linnaeus, 1758. Since the taxon is not included in Arca this has not been followed herein. Further, Barbatia (Barbatia) grayana (Dunker) cannot be established as synonym; it may have been confused with Arca grayana Dunker, a glycymeridid.
