Introduction
Formerly part of the order Pseudophyllidea Carus, 1863, which was recognised as being polyphyletic by Bray et al. (1999), the Bothriocephalidea was erected by Kuchta et al. (2008a) as an independent order. The adults are exclusively parasitic in teleost fishes (Kuchta et al. 2008b).
