Family BOGIDIELLIDAE Hertzog, 1936
Introduction
The Bogidiellidae are a group of mainly Neotropical, hypogean genera with vermiform bodies and reduced pleopods. Koenemann & Holsinger (1999) most recently revised the family. Only three species, have been reported from Australia, but other undescribed species (marine and groundwater) are known in collections.
Diagnosis
Head as long as deep, longer than deep or deeper than long; rostrum short or absent; eyes well developed (subrectangular), obsolescent or absent. Body cylindrical or subcylindrical; smooth; with sparse slender setae or without setae. Antenna 1 subequal to, or longer than antenna 2; peduncular article 1 shorter than, subequal to or longer than article 2; article 2 longer than article 3; article 3 shorter than article 1; accessory flagellum present or absent; primary flagellum 5- or more articulate; callynophore absent. Antenna 2 short or medium length; flagellum shorter than peduncle; less than or more than 5-articulate. Mandible incisor dentate; lacinia mobilis present on both sides; molar present, fully triturating. Maxilla 1 inner plate weakly setose apically or without setae; palp 1- or 2-articulate. Maxilliped inner plates well developed; outer plates small or vestigial. Coxae 1–7 vestigial, reduced or absent. Coxae 1–4 as long as broad or broader than long, overlapping or discontiguous. Gnathopod 1 not sexually dimorphic; subequal to, or larger (or stouter) than gnathopod 2; simple or subchelate; coxa smaller than or subequal to coxa 2; carpus shorter than propodus, strongly, slightly or not produced along posterior margin of propodus. Gnathopod 2 not sexually dimorphic; simple or subchelate; coxa smaller than, subequal to but not hidden by or larger than coxa 3; ischium short; carpus short, shorter than propodus, strongly, slightly or not produced along posterior margin of propodus. Pereopods 3–4 not glandular. Pereopod 3 coxa longer than broad or broader than long; carpus shorter than or subequal to propodus, not produced. Pereopod 4 coxa subequal to, or larger than coxa 3, without posteroventral lobe; carpus shorter than or subequal to propodus, not produced. Pereopod 5 shorter than pereopod 6; coxa smaller than, subequal to or larger than coxa 4, with posterodorsal lobe or without posterior lobe; basis expanded, slightly expanded or linear, subrectangular or subovate, with or without posteroventral lobe; carpus linear; dactylus with setae absent or with a few subterminal setae. Pereopod 6 shorter than pereopod 7; basis expanded, slightly expanded or linear; dactylus without setae or with a few subterminal setae. Pereopod 7 longer than pereopod 5; basis expanded, slightly expanded or linear, subrectangular. Urosomites 1–3 free; urosomite 1 longer than urosomite 2. Uropods 1–2 apices of rami with robust setae. Uropod 1 peduncle with or without basofacial robust seta. Uropod 3 biramous or uniramous; peduncle short or long; rami styliform or lanceolate; outer ramus longer than peduncle; inner ramus not apically setose. Telson laminar; moderately or weakly cleft, emarginate or entire; longer than broad or broader than long; dorsal and apical robust setae present or absent.
